The Yorkshire Terrier - Smart Yorkshire Teacup Terriers Training

When it comes to training, the size of your Yorkshire terrier is really immaterial. Yorkshire teacup terriers training is really not much different from training Yorkies of show size or larger, because training any Yorkshire terrier can be a challenge. If you read about the history of the breed before you went in search of a Yorkshire terrier dog for sale, you know that the reason the earliest Yorkies existed was so that they could dig their way into dark burrows and kill the rats or other rodents which lived there.

While nobody has that picture in mind when contemplating the idea of a silky Yorkshire terrier for sale, the reality is that the same determination and independence which allowed the first Yorkies to take on not just one, but entire nests of rats and fight them to the death is has been passed on, in all its glory, to the Yorkshire terrier which resides in your home today.

So if you’re under the impression that the training methods you used with your Golden Retriever, one of the most compliant of all breeds, will work with your teacup Yorkshire terrier you need to rethink your approach. Using the word ‘No,” as a regular feature of your Yorkshire teacup terriers training will almost backfire, and you’ll get rebellion instead of cooperation.

But the other side of the story of Yorkshire teacup terriers training is that teacup Yorkies, bred to be lap dogs, have evolved traits which make them both trusting, and emotionally fragile A harsh tone of voice, to teacup Yorkie, is akin to physical punishment. It’s very easy to lose a teacup Yorkie’s trust, and very difficult to regain it!

Approach your Yorkshire teacups terriers training by letting your Yorkie know in dog terms that you are the leader of the household pack. You can do this by teaching the Yorkie to do what you do want with rewards, instead of trying to teach it what you don’t want with punishment. As long as you keep the training sessions fun, your Yorkie will be the best canine pupil you’ve ever had!
